2023 High School Slammer Score
Putting a hard number on objective markers that matter for recruiting.
Over the course of the past month, most all Slammers high school players completed a Slammer Score Eval at either the South or North locations. This consisted of:
Loden Sports Athletic Evaluation (30-yard sprint, Rebound Jumps, Height / Weight)
Rapsodo Pitching Evaluation (5 fastballs, 5 changeups, and 5 breaking balls)
Rapsodo Hitting Evaluation (15 swings off a machine at ~60 mph from 40 ft.)
In addition to the standardized data capture, all pitchers and hitters were filmed using Rapsodo’s slow-motion video feature from the openside.
Before you do anything else, give @SlammersAD and @SlammerScore a follow on Twitter. We’ll be tweeting the best of every high school player’s data that we collected over the past three weeks along with video from @SlammersAD. We'll be retweeting all scores of 55 or higher from the @SlammerScore account.
In addition to the video featured in the tweet, the rest of the videos from a session are available upon request from a college coach.
This is what it looks like.
A Refresher on how to read a Slammer Score
ICYMI: Back in February we did a bit more of an in-depth intro to the Slammer Score.
A Slammer Score is a number between 20-80; 50 is average; and everything is relative to age. So, if you’re a 70 at 15-years-old, that’s exceptional. However, that doesn’t mean you’ll be a 70 at 16 because the goal posts move.
What affects a Slammer Score:
Rapsodo Pitching: velocity, spin, movement.
Rapsodo Hitting: exit velocity, hitting line drives, back-spinning the baseball.
Loden Score: running fast and jumping high.
What doesn’t affect a Slammer Score:
Game stats.
PS - We’re working on a way to incorporate game performance.
What if I’m the best hitter on my team and my Slammer Score is below average?
We’re looking at the long game here. The metrics that affect a Slammer Score are important from a recruiting standpoint as a player gets closer to college. So, if you’re the best hitter on your team and your Slammer Score is below average, you know where your focus needs to be in training: getting stronger and faster.
